KING TUT

Answer to Database Trivia question # 4

The correct answer is "All of the Above."

The best source to start looking for the most authoritative information is catalog where you can find information about the books and encyclopedias on a particular topic.

The second best source will be magazines or journals. To access the magazine/journal articles from home you can go to the web page @ http://www.osterhout.lib.pa.us/ and then click on the POWER library icon. POWER library provides access to various databases covering various subject areas. If you need pictures, photographs and fact sheets, you can try AP Multimedia . If you need detailed articles, go to EBSCO Animals and conduct the search.

Information can also be found on the Internet, however you must be careful about the authority of the publisher. Usually, sites with domain name . edu, .net, .org., and .gov, etc. are considered more reliable than sites with a domain name .com.

If you have any questions or need help with your research paper, please call us @ 823-0156. To reach the reference librarian after hours, try ASK Here PA, our 24/7 reference service.

            A Double Dose

Medical Apartheid is the first and only comprehensive history of medical experimentaion on African Americans. Starting with the earliest encounters between black Americans and Western medical researchers and the racist pseudoscience that resulted, it details the ways both slaves and freedmen were used in hospitals for experiments conducted without their knowledge-a tradition that continues today with some black populations. No one concerned with issues of public health and racial justice can afford not to read.

"This eye-opening account offers an inside look into how the pharmaceutical industry, aided and abetted by FDA policies carries out ethically problematic research in developing countries.-Ruth Macklin, professor of bioethics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine

            An Inconvenient Truth

If you live on this planet you should see this documentary. This may seem a little silly and overstated, but it's not. Your ten- year old child, you, and your sixty-year old mother should see it. It's easy to understand. It goes into enough detail to know that our planet is in trouble, without boring the person with the short attention span. You may not think the ocean current half way around the world has anything to do with you, or the United States, but it does. This documentary explains weather patterns, the history of temperatures, earthquakes, ice ages. It explores the affect of pollution on the world, and the changes that are taking place right now. With great use of intelligence and humor, Al Gore does a great job bringing this topic to public attention. Don't think it's to late and unrealistic to change anything now. We can reverse some of the damage we have done. Watch. Learn how
