Relocation Project of the North Branch

The North Branch of the Osterhout Free Library has found a new temporary location at

1021 N. Washington Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705.

We would like to thank all the supporters of the North Branch and would like to keep them informed about the progress by posting the pictures.

FREE TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE

The local office of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program will be sponsoring free tax preparation assistance from February to April 2008 for individuals with modest incomes (under $40, 000 annual). The Gates Lab at the Osterhout Free Library Central Branch is one of the locations for this service. (Other locations are LCCC, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittston, and the Kingston Senior Center). Starting on February 5 and ending on April 9, the program will take place at the Osterhout, mostly on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The tax preparation will be for basic federal forms only (no profit or loss for business, rents, employee business expenses, moving, or capital gains, etc); state forms are not included. Results will be electronically filed with a hard copy made for the tax payer.
RSVP volunteers who do the tax preparation are trained and certified in using IRS material. Anyone who would like to have taxes done by this program must make an appointment through the local RSVP office (not the Library). The number to call is 822-1159, ext. 3337. This is a dedicated voice mail line. The individual will receive a return call to set up an appointment.

New location for the North branch...

The public is invited to an Informational Meeting on Wed, January 23, 2008 at 7:00 pm at St. Dominic’s Church, Austin Ave., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705 to discuss a temporary relocation of the library.

Holiday Hours

The Osterhout Free Library will be closed on Monday, December 24th and Tuesday, December 25 th for the holiday season.
On December 26, 27, 28, and 29- 30 the library will be open from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Again the library will closed on Monday, December 31, 2007 and Tuesday, January 1, 2008 to welcome the New Year.

streaMed Patient Portal is a consumer health and patient education video database. It covers health related topics from cancer - diabetics - plastic surgery to relaxation exercises. It is available for in-house use only.
SIRS Discoverer includes middle and elementary curriculum topics and is designed to strengthen reading, writing, research, and computer skills. It also includes Global Internet Resources for 1-9 graders.
DartClix provides access to the electronic resources as well as the the access Pennsylvania catalog.

SIRS Discover and the DartCLix are accessible from any remote location with your FREE LUZERNE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM CARD. To learn more about these databases give us a call at 821-1959.
